Collective agreements

GSU's collective agreements are available here.

If you need help interpreting your collective agreement, please contact a GSU staff rep.

Your collective agreement is the starting point for workplace rights.  GSU's goal is to expand on and improve the collective agreement. This takes place during agreement renewal bargaining. It can also take place during the life of the contract if shop stewards and members are quick to fight contract violations and to “flesh out” the details of workers’ rights.

Often workers’ rights will be broader than the letter of the collective agreement. Practices evolve over time and the Union and management agree on ways of dealing with or interpreting situations.

If you have any questions about your collective agreement or are new to the job or to the workplace, be sure to contact a GSU staff representative.

Grievances

Don't hesitate to contact a GSU staff rep if you have questions or are having problems in your workplace. It’s easier to solve problems when they are small and if we can reach acceptable solutions as soon as problems arise, everyone benefits.

When the informal approach to solving a problem is not successful, the grievance procedure is available.
A grievance occurs when there is a violation of a worker’s rights. Consult your collective agreement or talk to a GSU staff rep because the procedure varies from local to local.

There are time limits for filing a grievance and moving it through the various steps. If you think you may have a grievance, contact a GSU staff rep at your earliest opportunity.

The grievance form is available
here [Word] or here [PDF] .
